Dr. Phil won’t be on air anymore.

The 21st season of Dr. Phil McGraw’s venerable daytime talk program will be it’s last.

McGraw departed the show after signing his most recent five-year contract with CBS Media Ventures in 2018. During the upcoming 2023–2024 season, the syndication firm is anticipated to allow networks to show previously recorded episodes.

McGraw stated that I’ve had the good fortune to work in daytime television for more than 25 wonderful years.

“Tens of thousands of guests and millions of viewers have benefited from our show’s assistance with problems ranging from mental health, parenting, addiction, and marriage. Although this time in my life and job has been fantastic, I still have many goals I want to pursue even if I’m leaving the daylight.”

According to CBS Media Ventures, McGraw will soon provide details on a “strategic primetime arrangement” that will allow him to “raise his impact on television and audiences.”

The project will premiere next year.

McGraw said, “I have deep worries about the American family, and I’m compelled to assist in restoring clarity of purpose and our fundamental values. I’m motivated to interact with a broader audience.”

According to CBS insiders who talked to Variety, McGraw has been concentrating on creating narrative projects and hosting the podcasts Mystery & Murder: Analysis by Dr. Phil and Phil in the Blanks.

When McGraw repeatedly appeared as a guest expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s, his television career took off. In the second half of 2002, he made his television debut. With more than 20,000 guests and more than 5 million viewer letters, he has moderated more than 4,000 episodes.

Dr. Phil is the second-most watched talk program, averaging 2 million people every episode. Live with Kelly and Ryan is currently Variety’s top-rated program.

McGraw’s decision was praised by CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCascio, who said, “Phil is a treasured partner and member of the CBS/King World family, and while his show may be ending after 21 years, I’m delighted to announce our connection will continue.”

He continued, “Phil altered the everyday scene as the brains behind one of daytime television’s most-watched conversation show. We welcome any opportunity for future collaboration and plan to keep working with the library and Dr. Phil for many years to come.”

The Wendy Williams Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dr. Oz, and The Real are the other daytime talk shows ending, and McGraw’s exit occurs simultaneously.
